Puppy Lust

You know who you are.

The world is divided into two groups--dog lovers and bad people.

Just kidding... (sort of).

I am a confessed dog lover. The greatest number of dogs I have had at one time is four--two labs, a dobe, and a chow chow. It was almost perfect except that my chow expected to be boss and got really pissed when she wasn't. My ex and I were maimed several times breaking up dog fights. But they were all wonderful girls, if a bit challenging.

I've written before about how dogs play such a rich place in my life. I have, right now, a wonderful mixed rescue on the smallish side--18 lbs--and I want another big dog. I mean I WANT one.

In Charleston, every fourth dog is a lab, in various colors. Owning a lab is practically a requirement for living in the chi-chi peninsula area where most of the monied live. Charleston is a pretty dog-friendly town and one frequently sees dogs and owners walking in the business district. Cool, huh?

Back to puppy lust. My therapist, who had three rescue dogs until last week, rescued yet another pup. Actually it was her husband's idea but I doubt he spent too much time pleading his case. So they have a four month old puppy.

There's nothing like knowing someone else has a puppy to make that longing come alive. I can think of a hundred reasons why getting another dog would be a good idea...ease the seperation anxiety for my Max...get me out of the house to exercise more...the promise of big dog kisses. There are even better reasons for not getting a new dog.

Sigh...
